Oak ceilings in 50 exclusive apartments
Ebeltoft Harbourfront, Ebeltoft
50 exclusive apartments with 3,000 m² of oak ceilings from I-Wood Denmark®
At Ebeltoft Harbourfront, the apartments open towards the marina and the water. Natural materials were a fundamental part of the architectural concept, and 3,000 m² of acoustic ceiling panels from I-Wood Denmark® were selected for 50 high-end apartments.
Vognsen & Co Entreprise constructed five residential buildings inspired by the bright, open character of Mediterranean coastal homes. Quality and natural materials were prioritised throughout, with oak flooring, oak doors, oak kitchen fronts and slatted oak ceiling panels in the living areas.
Project Manager Andreas Kjær explains: "several suppliers were considered, but I-Wood Denmark® provided the strongest overall solution – particularly when it came to meeting the project’s fire requirements and providing the necessary technical expertise."

”We looked at several suppliers, but from a product perspective, I-Wood provided the best solution for the project — especially in terms of fire requirements. This involves an extensive testing process, and I-Wood simply had the best materials and brought a high level of expertise to the dialogue.”
- Andreas Kjær, Project Manager at Vognsen & Co Entreprise.
A partner who understands the realities of construction
A total of 3,000 m² of ceiling panels from I-Wood Denmark® were supplied for the apartments at Ebeltoft Harbourfront. A project of this scale places demands on the product, logistics and collaboration alike.
"We are not just a supplier cutting products to size. We are involved from the initial measurements and introduction through to guidance on what is possible in relation to project requirements and fire safety requirements,"
Daniel Mosekjær Royer explains, emphasising that I-Wood Denmark® always aims to be involved in a construction project as a collaborative partner and advisor — not simply as a supplier. Vognsen & Co Entreprise experienced this approach throughout the project as well. One specific example illustrates the value of having a supplier who understands the realities of a construction site:
"Many hauliers are happy to deliver materials late in the afternoon, but by then the tradespeople have usually gone home. And the ceiling panels should not be left outside overnight. Daniel was very good at acting as the link to the transport provider, making sure everything fitted together,"
Andreas Kjær explains. In addition, I-Wood Denmark® supplied a presentation box ahead of the work. It contains physical material samples, allowing the products to be both seen and felt. According to Andreas Kjær, this made it much easier to involve the client in the decision-making process right from the start.

Technical challenge solved with elegance
When combining a raw building structure with a precision-crafted product, questions inevitably arise. Concrete elements have natural tolerances and are not accurate down to the millimetre. This presented Vognsen & Co Entreprise with a potential challenge: How do you combine them with a slatted ceiling that requires perfectly straight lines?
"As the contractor, we had anticipated the challenge – and probably made it more complicated than it needed to be. I-Wood presented several solutions for the client to choose from. The result was to leave a 25 mm gap from the wall and finish with a felt edge. A simple but effective solution that accommodates the tolerances without compromising the overall expression,”
- Andreas Kjær, Project Manager at Vognsen & Co Entreprise.

The result speaks for itself
Today, the oak acoustic ceilings give the apartments the warmth and sense of calm that the project has aimed for from the outset. The natural material creates a lively surface and brings nature into the interior. At the same time, the acoustic construction helps reduce noise, creating the best possible setting for everyday life – and both residents and the client are delighted with the result.
The solution-oriented approach also means that Andreas Kjær has no hesitation in recommending I-Wood Denmark® as a partner to others. He concludes:
"I have actually also contacted Daniel (Mosekjær Royer, ed.) about a project for my own home. That must be the strongest recommendation you can give"
